Did you know that under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, employers must provide reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for one year after the child's birth? There is no better time to become a recognized Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite.

Get recognition

The Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center supports working mothers and joins Missouri to provide recognition for businesses who make the choice to be breastfeeding friendly.

Employer support of breastfeeding provides many benefits, such as:

  • Cost savings of $3 per $1 invested in nursing support
  • Reduced absenteeism to care for sick children because breastfed infants have less illness
  • Lower health care costs
  • Improved employee productivity with higher morale and greater employee loyalty
  • Increased ability to attract and retain valuable employees
  • Family-friendly image in the community

Easy process

It is likely that your business already has a breastfeeding policy in place. Becoming officially recognized is easy and takes minutes.

  1. Call our Health Educator
  2. Answer a few questions about your policy
  3. Provide a picture of your organization's private area for breastfeeding mothers

Done! On behalf of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS), the Missouri Breastfeeding Coalition, and the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center, we will officially present you with your certificate and photograph the event so we can share your organization's support of nursing moms at work with the Cape Girardeau community.
