The Cape Girardeau County Food Code, adopted November 20, 2008 requires that all managers and food handlers employed in food establishments located in Cape Girardeau County be trained in food safety. This requirement became mandatory on January 15, 2012.

Variance: establishments with existing corporate training programs for hourly employees may apply for a variance to the training regulation. To be granted a variance, the program must be reviewed and approved by the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center.

The following people must complete Manager Training:

REQUIRED
(must be certified via a manager food safety course)
  • Managers
  • Assistant Managers
  • Owner(s) involved in day to day operations of facility
  • At least one person from absentee ownership (must own at least 5% of shares)

Below are two options to meet the Manager Training requirement through the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center. All certification exams are ANSI-accredited and meet the requirements set forth in the Cape Girardeau County Food Ordinance. There are other options for certification independent of the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center that also comply with the Cape Girardeau County Food Ordinance - if you have any questions about them, please contact us.
